3 Lions FC Learning Centre
This summer saw the return of the highly successful 3 Lions FC Learning Centre during the first week of the school summer holidays. The project is a partnership with the Football Association and the Essex County Football Association and delivered a week of themed literacy, numeracy and physical activities for Year 5 and 6 pupils with little or no interest in football.
This year, the week was based on the Women's World Cup in China which starts in September We were fortunate to welcome Mary Phillip, one of the England women's international team, who took part in an interview session with the children. During the afternoon, Mary led an England style training session putting the children through their paces. assisted by a new team of FA Skills Coaches. The FA Cups also arrived at the centre and children were able to have a memorable photograph taken alongside the FA Cups and Mary Phillip.
The 3 Lions FC Learning Centre aims to encourage local children to participate in the national game and offers fun educational activities throughout the week. The week-long project, wholly funded by the FA and with the support of the Essex County FA, included writing and filming a Brazilian-style TV commercial, match reports, football coaching, speed stacking and quizzes.
