Study Support Centre launches scheme to encourage children to read
| The Extra Time @ SUFC Study Support Centre is launching a campaign to encourage local youngsters to read more. The campaign was launched recently by Southend United player Tommy Black, whose image will be used on a number of posters which will be sent to all local primary and secondary schools. Tommy is a keen reader who often reads newspapers, books and magazines on the way to Away matches on the coach. |

Centre Manager, Simon Bell, said, “The scheme is something that the Study Support Centre has wanted to do for a long time. For a while now, the Premier League has been using images of players reading to promote literacy in schools through it’s “Champions Read” initiative and we wanted to do something similar across Southend using our own players. Over the next few months, we will be producing a series of posters to go into schools as well as developing a brand new reading programme at the centre.”
