Double Club Gets Go-Ahead

We are pleased to announce that the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and Arsenal Football Club recently accepted our proposal to become part of their national ‘Double Club’ pilot project for 2007/8.

The scheme places Southend United Double Club Teachers into local Secondary Schools in a Southend United themed classroom where they deliver a Literacy, Numeracy and ICT curriculum based upon football and Southend United. The ‘double’ element sees pupils then completing PE and sport sessions related to the classroom activity. The programme is designed to assist schools in motivating pupils with an interest in football to develop their literacy and numeracy skills in a unique way.

Our partner schools in 2007/8 are Shoeburyness High School and Chase High School and planning for the Double Club in now under way with the first classes due to start shortly.
